If you missed the SFIMA meeting last week, here are some notes on the topics that came up.
If you have not been to the SFIMA Peer to Peer Forum event before, it is one of the most well liked and most popular educational events each year. Basically the attendees ask and answer questions on hot topics. Some of the topics discussed last Thursday are:
Upcoming FTC regulations on browsers with a "
do not track" ruling that is currently being reviewed by politicians. This new law is the equivalent of "do not call" for the online marketing industry. If passed, this regulation will be a challenge for online marketers attempts to track visitors and conversions. A challenge will be trying to convince the general public web surfer that being tracking is not an invasion of their privacy since they remain anonymous, but helps marketers and web site owner understand their visitors and better customize websites to accommodate user's trends and activity.
QR Codes are growing in popularity and have many great uses for transmitting and finding information.
Bit.ly can make QR codes for you in addition to supplying the shortened URL link and tracking.
There was a big discussion on
Facebook ads and Facebook for businesses and many in the room shared how much success they are having with Facebook and how they are achieving that success. For many Facebook ads are converting better than
Google Adwords ads! One important tip for a better ROI on Facebook ads is to have them link to a specific landing page on your site rather than link to the company's Facebook page.
Group Buying was also a topic of conversation with sites like
Groupon,
LivingSocial and
Couptessa mentioned and there was also mention of the new crowd sourcing site
Quora.
SFIMA is always looking for ideas for topics for future events and feedback on past events. The SFIMA Board is looking for volunteers who would like to become board members for the 2011 - 2012 fiscal year. Please send any comments, questions, requests, etc. to President (at) SFIMA.com!
